I Believe I Can Fly!

I believe God is who He says He is and I believe He can do what He says He can do, but do I really believe He WILL do what he says He will do in my life?

A friend of mine recently stated that we don’t have to look at the whole staircase; we just have to take the first step. For me, having the faith to take that first step to live differently is the most difficult. When life becomes comfortable, it’s easy to settle for mediocre and to tune out God’s prompting toward a Spirit-filled life.

Fear is my biggest road block. As the hurts and pains in life build and lessons are learned I tend to cower in the face of change, even though change could lead to a more fulfilled, blessed life…

Since my husband spent several Sundays preaching on the Fruits of the Spirit, I have prayed every day that God will unleash the power of His Spirit living within me, so others will see His fruits in me (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control). This power, according to God’s Word, can move mountains (Matthew 17:20). If I have the power of the Holy Spirit living in me… there should never be an excuse to live a mediocre life and there should never be reason to fear.

I have always loved the song “I Believe I can Fly.” At first I’m sure it was because the tune was catchy, but as I listened to it again more carefully during an American Idol episode last week. My attention was immediately drawn to the Holy Spirit living within me. With His power, I can fly… with His power, I can touch the sky. I think about it every night and day! I want to spread my wings and fly away. Do I believe I can?? Read these words. May they inspire you, as they have me to take that first leap (step) of faith:

I used to think that I could not go on
And life was nothing but an awful song
But now I know the meaning of true love
I'm leaning on the everlasting arms

If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly

See I was on the verge of breaking down
Sometimes silence can seem so loud
There are miracles in life I must achieve
But first I know it starts inside of me, oh

If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it.

Do you believe God WILL do what He says He will do in your life? Do you believe you can fly? I want to have that kind of faith. I want to take the next step to really believe God is working in my life. God has promised never to leave nor forsake us and He has also gifted us with His Spirit. It is up to us to believe it and then to tap into it. Think about how much more we can experience in life “soaring” as opposed to “wallowing.”

Won’t you join me in the sky??

Blessing to you my friends!

Marisa
