Soul Surfer

Last night Ron and I watched the movie Soul Surfer... based on a true story of a young Maui surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack.

The love and support of God, her family, and friends along with her sheer personal convictions and determination enabled her to surf and compete again against all odds.

We were both moved by this movie and I now carry this message of accountability:

There is a risk in busying myself doing the things at which I'm good and miss God's message of love and redemption not only in my life, but in the lives of others as well.

God can use the tragedies in our lives to open our eyes and hearts to see and embrace the world around us in more deep and meaningful ways. When I die, will there be anything of eternal value that has passed through my hands while on this earth? For these are the souces of blessing and influence that have lasting value.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from this movie:
  • Love is bigger than any tidal wave or fear.
  • I don't need easy. I just need possible.
  • I don't know why terrible things happen to us, but I have to believe something good is going to come out of this.
  • It's hard to look at things that are too close.
  • A small step in a good direction
  • Compassion can drive us to do amazing things and give us perspective.
  • Normal is overrated
  • When you get in the Impact Zone, get back up because you never know what's over the next wave.
  • I could have never embraced this many people with two arms!

I'm going to leave you with this scripture verse found in Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you," Declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." May we all rest on this promise to help see us through the difficult times.

I encourage you, if you haven't already, to watch Soul Surfer, for its message is certainly worth savoring!

Marisa,
I remember when you had 4 followers and I was one! I am so glad this site is taking off! It does me good to see dreams soaring. Mine are, too, so seeing a movie that does the same makes my heart take off!
Thanks for everything,
